OUR NAME
When the White Horse Coven is a Cochranian Wiccan coven and assembly based in London. Cochranian Wicca is represented by the Horse or stang, and forked stick that is used for ritual shamanic dances. One of the attendees was Doreen Valiente, who first promoted the Wiccan Rede
In addition to being a stream of the Cochrane Tradition we claim a lineage back to Traditional Witchcraft through a tradition based in the Forest of Anderida in Southern England. This tradition is referred to in Reginald Scot's Discoverie of Witchcraft.
Those involved with these traditions gathered at night and celebrated their traditions using toast and ale, and dancing the shamanic horse dance. Our assembly holds the strongest connection in London to these old traditions as this is reflected in the term ‘White Horse by Moonlight’, giving our full name. In practice we generally use the name White Horse as the shortened form.
