INTRODUCTION to the White horse CoveN
The Coven of the White Horse is a Wiccan coven based in London which celebrates all full moons with its coven members. In addition it runs a cycle of sabbats according to the tradition of the nine knots with these events being public or for invited non coven members.
The White Horse Coven was formed on the evening of 16th September 2016 The date was chosen as a full moon which was also a lunar eclipse. Lunar eclipses are important within Witchcraft as the drawing down of the moon refers to the special astronomical knowledge held by witches that allowed them to predict an eclipse. This meant that their rites could be accompanied by lunar phenomenon. The coven was formed as the eclipse reached its maximum.
On the night of the 16th it was cloudy over London, however as the initiates gathered for the rite a large inverted silver triangle, the sign of the goddess, was formed as the moon shone through the clouds. The presence of the Goddess in the sky was felt as the coven formed.
The White Horse Coven was formed by initiates of a number of traditions. We see Wicca as ‘the beautiful tradition’ and wish for harmony between the different sects of Wicca. We wish for our coven to be a model and a beacon to other Wiccans. We therefore chose for our coven to be ecumenical and have initiates from different Wiccan lineages including the two main lineages, Cochranian and Gardnerian. These are blended with Traditional Witchcraft with proven and documented lineages from before the repeal of the Witchcraft Act.
